  • Weight the shop-floor integration. If digital manufacturing is the goal, the platform’s ability to connect to and orchestrate the operation is decisive, not a nice-to-have.
  • Assess the data foundation. The digital ambition rests on operational data; evaluate whether the platform captures it well enough to build on.
  • Test against your model, with your people. Manufacturing-specific fit is best judged by the people who run the operation, against your actual production, not by a generic evaluation.

For a manufacturer going digital, the ERP is the operational foundation the whole transformation stands on, and the selection should turn on operational fit, shop-floor integration and the data foundation — not on the finance modules that dominate a services-oriented evaluation.
